How do I notify Desktop Broker of a deceased estate?

If one of your clients has passed away, please notify us as soon as possible so we can protect their account and begin processing the estate.

Before you begin

Please have the following documentation ready:

  • Death certificate

  • Will

  • Grant of Probate (if applicable)

Steps to notify Desktop Broker and process the estate

1. Notify Desktop Broker

Call us on 1300 726 177 or email support@desktopbroker.com.au to report your client's passing and provide the executor's details.

Once notified, we will:

  • Freeze the account to prevent any unauthorised trades

  • Email you the required forms and documentation to proceed

2. Submit the required documents

Once you receive the required forms from us, submit the original certified documents as instructed.

3. Create the estate account

Once your submitted documents have been reviewed and verified, create the estate account.

4. Transfer and sell shares

The shares will be transferred to the estate account and can then be sold or distributed as required.

Important

If your client wished to sell some shares and transfer others to beneficiaries, please note that any shares to be sold must be sold prior to your client's passing. Please factor this into your estate planning discussions with your client.
